Dunbar Receives 2021 Edward E. Burrows Distinguished Achievement Award

ARLINGTON, VA – The American Society of Enrolled Actuaries (ASEA) has honored Mark K. Dunbar, MSEA, with the 2021 Edward E. Burrows Distinguished Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually to a pension actuary who has gone above and beyond the call of the profession in advancing ethics, education, beneficial legislation or regulations that enhance the private pension system or the professionalism of enrolled actuaries within the private pension system.  Ed Burrows was a beacon in this regard, and ASEA (formerly ACOPA) honors him by presenting an award that recognizes those who follow his example.

A Senior Consultant and Founder of Pittsburgh-based Dunbar Bender & Zapf, Dunbar is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA), and an Enrolled Actuary. He is a past Board member of ASPPA (7 years), the American Academy of Actuaries (2 years), and president of ACOPA (2012-2013). He is currently a member of the Council on Professionalism for the American Academy of Actuaries, and a representative to the International Actuarial Association.

“Mark is a truly deserving recipient of this year’s Edward E. Burrows Distinguished Achievement Award,” noted Justin Bonestroo, Senior Vice President at CBiZ, and current President of ASEA.  “As one of the founders of Dunbar, Bender, & Zapf he grew his firm while encouraging ASPPA participation and designations and has given so much back to the actuarial industry through his activities with ASPPA, ASEA and the Academy including serving as President of ACOPA and a frequent presenter at ASPPA conferences on a variety of subjects, successfully explaining complex issues in simple terms. It was an honor to present the award to Mark this year.”
